The artist behind the line.
Majed Zalila was born on January 3, 1981, in Tunis. Drawn to art from an early age, he began painting at the age of four.
Over the years, he has developed a distinctive figurative language shaped by bold contours, fragmented forms, overlapping figures and vivid fields of color. His compositions are immediately recognizable for their graphic intensity and rhythmic construction, where faces, bodies and gestures interact across the surface of the work.
Zalila works across a varied range of supports and techniques, including acrylic and oil on canvas, wood and cut wood, drawing and ink on paper, photographic supports and perforated sheet. Rather than being confined to a single medium, his practice moves between painting, drawing and object-like constructions while maintaining a consistent visual vocabulary.
Human figures remain central to much of his work. They are multiplied, compressed and intertwined within energetic compositions in which line and color organize the image as strongly as the figures themselves. Through this visual language, Zalila has developed a body of work that is direct, graphic and distinctly his own.
